Galileo: Artist to Anarchist

To begin, I would love to thank you for coming on this journey with me and to give you a visual preview. I painted these with ink on handmade paper. Each page has a palimpsest like reference from the preceding page, so in a sense it is one continuous painting. The images reference some of the ideas inspired by following Galileo from artist to anarchist and my love of science.

A visual journey inspired by science and the ideas of Galileo Galilei. Original art made with ink on handmade paper. Thanks to Ben Berger for the soundtrack by Group Love.

Thank you, Ben Berger, for the music by Group Love.

Welcome!

The Academy.

The Academy.

Every journey has a beginning. This one begins with applying to be a Visiting Artist at the American Academy in Rome. As an artist obsessed with science, the American Academy offered an incredible place to realize my idea to paint six paintings of Galileo’s six journeys to Rome.

While waiting to hear back from the Academy, I crossed my fingers and started reading everything I could find about Galileo and Rome.

A huge surprise was in store from the research. I discovered that on just his second visit to Rome, the great man himself had demonstrated his telescope on the property of the Academy. Somehow it felt like the stars were aligned and sure enough, my acceptance letter came one month later.
